Nominations for RCA election due August 1st

New deadline imposed June 8 reduced remaining time from 101 days to 53 days

At its June 8, 2007, board of directors meeting, RCA changed its by-laws to make the deadline earlier for filing petitions to nominate candidates in its annual elections. Under the previous by-law provision that had been in effect for about 35 years, and until the change was made, this year’s deadline was Sept. 17.

A new deadline of August 1 was set for this year only; in subsequent years, the deadline will be July 1.

If you’re among those who received a message from Arch Doty, maybe this item will be of interest. Because Arch mentioned me in his message, some RCA members seem to have concluded that Arch and I walk in lockstep. We don’t. RCA should use more volunteers.

When RCA contracted with a management company, Meredith & Hopkins, 10 years ago to handle a portion of its administration, the stated reason (as I recall) was because the Club leaders couldnÂ’t find enough volunteers to do RCA’s work in an adequate fashion and in a timely manner.

First, RCA should use everything it has to encourage more volunteerism. Put notices in the Aerogram, the Proceedings, and on the website. Send requests for volunteers in email. Make announcements at Club meetings. Leaders, make phone calls. Send emails. Talk it up. (more…)
