Howard Lester, W2ODC, died on April 16, 2007, in Alplaus, New York. He was 83. Howard was a resident of Alplaus for more than 50 years.

Howard joined the Radio Club of America in 1978 and became a Fellow in 1989.

Bill Wickline, sometimes known as “Wick,” died on Feb. 23, 2007. He was 80. Bill joined RCA in 1976 and became a Fellow in 1985. He let his membership expire a few years ago, so I don’t know whether RCA will record his passing, but I want to. Not that RCA wouldn’t want to, but I’m not sure the Club has a consistent way to offer such information about former members. (more…)

Kenneth D. Hopper, KD7KH, of New River, Ariz., formerly of Holmdel, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, of prostate cancer. He was 81. Ken joined RCA in 1970. He became a Fellow in 1983 and a Life Member in 2001. Ken previously had the call signs K2VAM and W3ZML (more…)

Mac was known locally as 'the Man of the Mountain.'.

Loren R. “Mac” McQueen, 81, died Jan. 20, 2007, of complications from a neck injury he suffered in a fall. He had been hospitalized for several weeks. Loren joined RCA in 1969 and became a Fellow in 1975. He was a member of the board of directors from 1979 to 1999. He received the Club’s Special Services Award in 2001. Mac was president of Communication & Control of Campbell, California, an antenna site developer and management company. (more…)

Harrison W. Moore Jr., W2JQS, of Bronxville, New York, died at age 88 on Jan. 16, 2007. Harry joined RCA in 1988.

Born in Bennington, Vermont on Sept. 9, 1918, to Harrison Sr. and Ethel Davenport Moore, Harry grew up in Danbury, Connecticut and Briarcliff Manor, New York. He first was licensed as a ham radio operator as W2JQS in 1936 at his high school, Birch Wathen in New York City and kept this key active into his 80s.

Joe Conely, KO5F, died on Dec. 27, 2006, at his home in Tomball, Texas. He was 62. Joe joined RCA in 1998. RCA member Rob Walker, N5VQN, told me that Joe had been battling cancer for the past couple of years. “Joe was a mentor to me and many others in the industry, and a great source of energy and zest for the industry and hobby (KO5F) he loved. He died at peace in his home with his family,” Rob said.

Richard Lee “Dick” Plessinger Sr. died on Dec. 19, 2006, at Hospice of Hamilton in Hamilton, Ohio. He was 72. He joined RCA in 1979 and became a Fellow in 1985.

Dick was born in Union County, Indiana, and spent most of his life in Hanover Township, north of Hamilton, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. He moved to St. George Island, Florida, about 18 years ago. He developed a shopping center at 35 Island Drive in Eastpoint, Florida. He applied for licenses for two new FM broadcast stations and built them himself, locating the studios in the shopping center. The two stations are WOYS-FM 100.5 and WOYC-FM 106.5.
