RCA has chosen a venue for this year’s breakfast meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada. Treasure Island Hotel and Casino will play host to RCA’s members and guests on Thursday morning, Feb. 28, 2008. The breakfast is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the Caribbean Room. The meeting will feature a speech by Radio Club Vice President Marty Cooper, who has given speeches twice before in the past several years at RCA’s Spring Gathering banquet. Advance registration is required. Mail a registration form together with your check to reserve a seat at the breakfast.

The Radio Club of America has scheduled a banquet in conjunction with the 2008 Texas APCO Conference & Expo. This will be the second banquet to be arranged by the Club’s Texas Event Committee, headed by Carroll Hollingsworth. A reception and cash bar begins at 6 p.m.; the dinner meeting is set for 7 p.m. on April 29, 2008 at the Galveston Island Convention Center, 5600 Seawall Blvd. Texas APCO’s convention will be conducted there from April 28-30, 2008.

RCA has scheduled its Fifth Annual Spring Gathering for April 1, 2008, at the Hyatt Regency Albuquerque, 330 Tijeras NW. The event is to be held in conjunction with the APCO Western Regional Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The guest speaker is Alan Tilles.

RCA hosts session at New York Athletic Club on November 16

RCA has scheduled its annual Technical Symposium for Nov. 16, 2007, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m at the New York Athletic Club, 180 Central Park South, New York, NY 10019. The symposium’s coordinator and moderator, Richard J. “Rich” Reichler, said that this year’s symposium will include presentations about advanced wireless technologies by Dana Dulabone and about software defined radio by Allan Margulies. There is no admission charge for the symposium, but the Club asks those who plan to attend to contact HQ to make a reservation. You can indicate your intention to attend the symposium on your banquet registration form, send an email to HQ, or telephone HQ at 303-948-4921. The Club’s banquet follows the symposium, and paid registration is required to attend the banquet. The New York Athletic Club, a private facility, has a dress code that is enforced at the door.

Mark your calendar for November 16 for the Radio Club of America’s banquet. The affair returns to the New York Athletic Club where the banquet has been hosted for the past 25 years or so. Andy Rooney, known for his essays on the CBS News program “60 Minutes,” will deliver the keynote speech. Walter Cronkite, KB2GSD; and John S. “Jack” Belrose, Ph.D., VE2CV, will receive the Armstrong Medal. Walter is best known as the anchor of the “CBS Evening News” from 1962 to 1981. Jack is an emeritus researcher at Communications Research Centre Canada. (more…)

An estimated 250 members and guests are anticipated to attend the 2007 RCA awards banquet, which has been conducted annually at the New York Athletic Club for the past 25 years or more. RCA conducted its first banquet in 1919.

Andy Rooney from the CBS News program “60 Minutes” is set to deliver the keynote speech. His colleague, Walter Cronkite, KB2GSD; and John S. Belrose, Ph.D., VE2CV, both will be presented with RCA’s Armstrong Medal. Details regarding ticket availability and other award recipients are pending.

The banquet, which begins at 7 p.m., is preceded by a reception at 5 p.m., and by a technical symposium earlier in the afternoon. Tickets are required for the reception and banquet. RCA offers the technical symposium without charge, although reservations are requested.

The 2006 banquet featured a keynote speech by Karim Khoja, CEO of Roshan, one of the cellular carriers in Afghanistan, and a special address by Sean Maloney, executive vice president of Intel.

On April 17, RCA conducted its first Texas Dinner. The Texas Event Committee, chaired by Carroll Hollingsworth, an RCA director, organized the dinner.

“We had over 40 people there. It was well attended, with twice as many as we expected,” said Nancy Smith, who is a member of RCA and Texas APCO. The RCA function was held during the Texas APCO State Conference and Exposition April 15-18 at the Waco Convention Center in Waco, Texas. (more…)

The RCA 2007 Spring Gathering will be held in cooperation with the 2007 APCO Western Regional Conference & Exposition. The APCO convention is sponsored by the 13 chapters of the APCO Western States Region and hosted by APCO’s Southern California Chapter, the California Public-Safety Radio Association. Diners will enjoy an evening meal in the Verandah Grill aboard the Queen Mary. The banquet is set to begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50.

One of the longest-running in RCA’s breakfast-meeting series is the function at the International Wireless Communications Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year’s meeting is set for March 29 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Room N246, from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. The editor of Mobile Radio Technology, Glenn Bischoff, will give a speech. Sponsors include Schwaninger & Associates, RadioSoft, MissionCritical Communications, MRT/IWCE and CTA Communications. Reservations are required. Tickets are $15 when paid for in advance; $20 at the door with a reservation.
